ZPower Receives Two Prestigious Technology Awards

Company Named Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum and Innova Award Winner by Battery Power Products & Technology Magazine

CAMARILLO, December 4, 2008 — ZPower, Inc., a leading global provider of the first silver-zinc, rechargeable battery technology for consumer electronic devices, has received two prestigious honors—both recognizing the innovation and benefits of its battery technology.  ZPower has been selected as one of 34 companies designated as “Technology Pioneers 2009” by the World Economic Forum; and as winner of the 2008 Innova Award for Product Development Excellence by Battery Power Products & Technology Magazine.

Technology Pioneers 2009
The World Economic Forum, based in Geneva, selected ZPower, Inc. as one of 34 visionary companies comprising its list of Technology Pioneers 2009.  The selection of the Technology Pioneers 2009 is the result of a vigorous selection process by a panel of 44 technology experts who evaluated more than 320 applications received from around the world.

Now in its 10th year, the Forum’s Technology Pioneers program aims to recognize companies at the forefront of technology and innovation.  To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of innovative, life-changing technology that has the potential for long-term, positive impact on business and society.  The technology must also be proven and show signs of being a market leader.

This year’s Technology Pioneers 2009 is the most geographically diverse group the Forum has ever recognized—from such countries as: the U.S., Canada, Japan, Switzerland, India, Germany, and the People’s Republic of China. Their innovations fall into three categories: Biotech/Health, Energy/Environment, and Information Technology.  ZPower, Inc. is one of 11 companies in the Energy/Environment category, which includes: BrightSource Energy, Inc., CURRENT Group, LLC, RecycleBank, LLC, SemiLEDs Corporation, and Virent Energy Systems, Inc.   Previous Tech Pioneer Award winners include Google, Napster, and Mozilla Corporation.

2008 Innova Awards
ZPower has been selected the winner of the 2008 Innova Award for Product Development Excellence by Battery Power Products & Technology magazine, www.batterypoweronline.com.  This year, Innova Awards were issued to recognize:  Best Technology, Outstanding Application, Product Development Excellence, and Industry Leadership in the field of battery power management.

The Forum and Innova awards recognize ZPower’s innovative silver-zinc rechargeable battery technology, which offers superior performance—with up to 40-percent more run time than traditional lithium-ion batteries.  And since over 95-percent of key battery elements can be recycled and reused, ZPower’s silver-zinc batteries are environmentally friendly and clean.  Because silver-zinc batteries feature a water-based chemistry containing no lithium, they are inherently safe and not subject to the FAA air travel restrictions on lithium-ion batteries.

“We’re extremely pleased to receive these distinctive honors from The World Economic Forum and Battery Power Products & Technology magazine for our innovative battery technology,” said Dr. Ross Dueber, president and CEO of ZPower, Inc.  “At ZPower, we believe our silver-zinc battery technology—which leverages advances in polymers, nano-technology, power electronics and processing methods—is environmentally responsible, safer and offers improved performance when compared with batteries currently being used in portable consumer electronic devices.”

Silver-zinc battery chemistry is currently poised to move into the commercial marketplace for use in consumer electronics. A silver-zinc battery option will be rolled out in a major notebook computer in 2009.

Dr. Dueber has spoken at many major conferences including CES 2008, Fall IDF 2007, and other international battery symposiums. In April 2006, Dr. Dueber was invited to speak at a meeting of the United States President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

ZPower was selected in September 2007 by AlwaysOn as one of the “GoingGreen 100 Top Private Companies” in the Energy Storage category for 2007. ZPower was recognized for its achievements in battery materials recycling.
